Century Farmhouse |
|
"This
charming 18th century farmhouse has recently been completely
renovated to make a very comfortable house, with lovely
original features such as the exposed stone walls in the
living room and kitchen, and attractive ceiling beams. The
ground floor is on two levels; there are six steps down
to the kitchen, and the three bedrooms are all on different
levels too. The pool is fenced and the surrounding area
comprises fields and woodland. The discreet owners live
in the house next door (approx 30m away). As the house has
been built on different levels there is a slight drop (about
1m) between the garden and the open terrace outside the
kitchen, so small children should be watched.
The situation of this property makes it ideal for those
wishing to be in the country, and yet it is just a few kilometres
from the town of Sarlat with its narrow mediaeval streets,
restored Gothic and Renaissance town houses and its famous
Saturday market. The surrounding area is full of imposing
châteaux, interesting caves, and delightful, small
villages with cobbled streets; for the energetic, a days
canoeing down the river is a must!

Delightful House |
|
"The
delightful hamlet of St Julien is at the end of a very minor
road leading nowhere except to the edge of the river Dordogne,
only a short walk from this house. The village is charming,
with the lauze (stone-tiled) roofs of the region
in abundance. The nearby town of Domme is most beautiful,
perched high up on a rock with panoramic views across the
river to La Roque-Gageac. The house has been totally renovated
to a high standard and in good taste. It is located in a
quiet lane with a delightfully private, walled terrace to
the rear with built-in barbecue and a small area of lawn.
The living area is on the ground floor and the remaining
rooms are on the first.

"Situated
between the towns of Beynac, with its magnificent château,
and Sarlat, a very picturesque and historic town, this pretty
cottage offers an attractive base from which to explore
this delightful area. The setting is somewhat unusual in
that the house is built against a rocky outcrop, complete
with its own little grotto - an exciting haven
for children to play in, or a wonderfully cool place to
park the car! A little-used lane passes between the cottage
and the meadow opposite and passing traffic will be scarce
as it provides access to just two other houses. A little
local train may be heard in the distance twice a day but
we doubt you will even notice it.

"This
comfortable, first floor apartment overlooks the square
in the village of Domme, one of the oldest bastide villages
in the Dordogne. It has two bedrooms and a very spacious
kitchen/dining room which has a lovely view over terracotta
roof-tops to the hillside beyond; the sitting room is smaller
but comfortable, with a sofa and easy chairs and views across
the square. The owner lives on the ground floor and has
her own completely separate entrance.
Domme is wonderfully situated on a rocky crag overlooking
the Dordogne river. As the village holds much historic interest,
it is naturally much visited during the summer months, and
to save the inconvenience of looking for parking, the garage
will doubtless be much appreciated during that time. The
other seasons are much quieter and the village returns to
its normal sleepy pace.

| Delightful
House |
|
"This
delightful house is in the beautiful village of la Roque-Gageac,
perched right on the banks of the river Dordogne. A well-renovated
traditional Périgourdin property, it is set high
up and away from the road running through the village, with
lovely views over the river. The property owners have an
eye for detail, and the interior is comfortable and well
decorated whilst retaining traditional features of exposed
stonework and beams. The kitchen is suberb, and the bedroom
on the lower ground floor has two twin four-poster beds
with a sitting area by the window with river views. There
are two open terraces either side of the house and the parking
facilities are approx 300m away. The situation allows one
to enjoy all the benefits of this privileged setting without
disturbance from visitors to the village below.

River-Side Villa |
|
"Few
visitors to the Dordogne have not been to this beautiful
river-side village and gazed in bewilderment at the huddle
of houses built under (and some into) the towering cliffs
above. The property we are offering is reputedly the oldest
in the village and having been recently renovated, is full
of charm and character. Decorated with country chintz fabrics
and solid traditional-style furniture, there are also good
pine beds and tastefully tiled bathrooms: the effect is
very pleasing. It is approached by a pathway of gentle steps
from the street below, which go on up to the celebrated
church and its tropical garden at the top. There is exterior
access into the lower level of the house, the principal
entrance being at the middle level via a walled/gated courtyard
at the back of the house. The fitted kitchen has good storage
space and tiled work-tops. There is a log-burning stove
here, as there is in the sitting room, which has good comfortable
seating and access, via french windows, onto a large balcony/terrace
with shady grapevine and river views. There is a continuous
staircase linking the three floors which, though of spiral
design, is not particularly awkward. The upper floor double
bedroom has french windows onto an unguarded patio, over
the courtyard. With restaurants, river swimming, canoeing
and boat trips in the village, this is a wonderful spot
to throw away the car keys, and enjoy!
Lower level: (steep spiral stairs down): double bedroom;
twin bedroom; bathroom/WC. Middle level: kitchen/dining
room; sitting room; large cloakroom/ WC. Upper level: double
bedroom; twin bedroom; shower/WC.
