Burgundy Villas

Chateau

This is a well renovated old smithy, part of the estate of the Chateau de Sury. It is well set back from a quiet country lane with a nice sitting out area for both front and back. From time to time the Chateau’s resident peacocks may wander down for a visit! This is a peaceful farming hamlet, yet not isolated, an area of woods and agricultural land, well known for its fishing and horse riding. There is easy access to the river Loire, the famous potteries of Nevers and the vineyards of Pouilly and Sancerre are just a short trip to the north. Furnisched in a fresh and light style, it makes a good base for exploring both Burgundy and the upper Loire.
Ground floor: sitting/dining room with open fireplace and french doors to rear patio; bar-style kitchen area adjoining: spacious double bedroom; bathroom (bath with shower over); separate WC; 1st floor (steep stairs from living area): mezzanine with single bed (no window in mezzanine area) leading through to twin bedroom (with velux window). Grassy unfenced grounds: river fishing at 100m. Pony rides and bike hire may be arranged with owner.

Renovated Property

Situated in a peaceful little hamlet, and owned by the same family as property 77050 this carefully renovated property is a very good base for an interesting and varied holiday. Nearby Givry has a popular cycle track linking it with Cluny to the south, whilst Chalon sur Saône has a good golf course and swimming pool. Just half an hour away is Beaune, wine capital of Burgundy and famous for its mediaeval hospices. A rather plain exterior hides a very well equipped and comfortable interior, most charmingly decorated in shades of blue and yellow. A recent attic conversion provides a small but very nice twin bedroom on the first floor from where you can see the vineclad slopes nearby. Although there are neighbouring houses, there is the advantage of a very spacious flat grassy area for sitting out.

Set in lovely, typical Charollais countryside with rolling hills and extensive rural views, this simple farm cottage is a very peaceful place for a holiday. The vineyards of Burgundy and the lovely towns of Cluny and Paray le Monial make good day trips out. Down the lane there is access to a small pond suitable for fishing and a small lake where one can swim about 1.5 km away. There are a few steps up to the interior which is rustic yet comfortable. The spacious sitting room has old beams, flagstone floors and a huge open fireplace. Outside there is a spacious grassy area with flower borders, and a fine old oak tree offers shade for sitting out.

Rustic Villa

Situated on the same estate as 71234, the owners themselves used to live here before they moved up into the nearby manor house to run their farm. A very pretty situation it is too, right beside a small lake which is visited by all sorts of water fowl; a little boat is thoughtfully provided for visitors.
The accommodation is rustic in style but spacious and comfortable with a big open fireplace sporting the owner’s hunting trophies! There is country-style furniture, old floor tiles and beamed ceilings, and a very simple but spacious kitchen.
All on ground floor: spacious sitting room with open fireplace (wood provided) and convertible sofa-bed; dining room; kitchen; WC off sitting room; bathroom (bath with hand shower over, bidet, WC) off kitchen; 3 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 with bunk beds leading through to 1 twin.

18th Century Château

Rurally situated in a tiny hamlet but within easy reach of Autun, and commanding magnificent, far-reaching views, this independent wing of the owners’ 18th century château provides comfortable holiday accommodation set within 11 hectares of private parkland. This is indeed a privileged setting for those who wish to enjoy the varied attractions of a holiday in Burgundy. The château is situated equi-distant from the Côte de Beaune vineyards and the Parc National du Morvan, an area of outstanding natural beauty, with a wealth of footpaths and cycle trails, together with water sports facilities on its lakes. The historical town of Autun, with its Roman and mediaeval roots is well worth exploring, and Beaune, with its rampart enclosed ‘vielle ville’ and its 15th century hospital - the Hotel-Dieu, makes an interesting destination for a day trip. For those wishing to spend ‘a day at home’ and withdraw from the pressures of modern society, this is the perfect place to wander at leisure through the tranquil wooded grounds, or simply to relax. French windows open directly on to the terrace area and a spacious, well tended garden area with natural areas of shade, making this an ideal spot for al fresco dining. Here the owners have thoughtfully provided swings and a small sandpit for younger party members. A short stroll takes you to the enclosed swimming pool, which has spacious sunbathing terraces and enjoys unrivalled views over the surrounding countryside and the wooded Morvan hills beyond. A little further on is the tennis court and the small, private unfenced fishing lake (please bring your own equipment). As the helpful English speaking owners are not always in residence at the château, you will more often than not have exclusive use of the swimming pool and tennis court. The discreet, resident caretakers live to one side of the château entrance drive, and do not use these facilities. The château is a well loved family home and the owners occupied ‘our part’ before moving into the other wings. The interior is comfortable with homely touches, not an anonymous state of the art villa, and the furnishings reflect their love of traditional, antique furniture and objets d’art. The ground floor has been recently redecorated; the first and second floors retain more of the style of a bygone era.

Spacious Holiday Home

This renovated former stable building now provides a very comfortable and spacious holiday home. It stands at the side of the owners château in a big park. The filtered pool is at the far side of the château and is shared with the owners. There are several ponds and a 1m deep channel close to the property, so small children need to be supervised. It may be possible to arrange fishing on site with the owner.
In the entrance hall, leather saddles on wall supports are a decorative feature, reminiscent of the former use of the building. The big, modern kitchen is very well equipped. The sitting room has some lovely antique furniture, a fireplace and sliding windows to the courtyard. The far right-hand side of the property is occupied but privacy is nonetheless good for both parties. This area is still fairly unknown, and has many places of interest to visit. Nearby, Paray-le-Monial has a beautiful basilica that is considered to be a small-scale model of the famous abbey of Cluny. Within half an hour you are in the vineyards of the Macon, with the Beaujolais area just to the South. Some local road noise may be audible to one side of the property grounds.
